Install
Turn on Tally's connector
In Tally: F1: Help → Settings → Connectivity → Client/Server configuration. Set TallyPrime acts as: Both and Port: 9000, then press Ctrl+A to save.
Check it worked: open http://localhost:9000 in a browser — you should see "TallyPrime Server is Running".
Install Claude Desktop & sign in
Get the Claude app from claude.ai/download and sign in. This is the app most people use — TallyMCP plugs straight into it, and our installer wires the connection for you (no JSON to edit).
Run the TallyMCP installer & paste your key
Download and run the installer. When it asks, paste the license key from your email. It copies the app and connects it to Claude Desktop automatically.

Activate your TallyMCP subscription
Restart Claude Desktop
Close and reopen Claude Desktop so it picks up TallyMCP. Under the hood, the installer added one entry to Claude Desktop's config — alongside any other tools you already have:
"tally-mcp-max": { "command": "…\\Programs\\TallyMCP\\tally-mcp-max.exe", "args": [], "env": { "TALLYMCP_LICENSE_ENFORCE": "1" } }
You never touch this — it's shown just so you know what changed.
When Claude Desktop reopens, TallyMCP is connected. Click the + in the message box and you'll see TallyMCP in your tools — all 122 ready to use:
Run it
Open a new chat in Claude Desktop with Tally running, and just ask. TallyMCP confirms before anything that changes your books and logs every change.
Good first asks: List my ledgers · Show June's day book · What does Reddy Electronics owe? · Import these vouchers from this Excel
Updates — automatic
You never hunt for a download. TallyMCP checks for updates on its own:
- While you're working, Claude simply mentions a new version is available — nothing interrupts you.
- On your next restart, the update installs itself silently. Hands-off.
A new version (v0.3.32) is ready. It'll install automatically the next time you restart Claude Desktop — nothing for you to do. Want the highlights?

What it can't do (yet)
We'd rather you know the edges up front.
Built and tested on Tally Prime 7 for Windows. Other editions/older versions may behave differently; no macOS/Linux Tally.
Works on whichever company is open in Tally. Switching companies happens in Tally (F3), not by asking the AI.
It populates GSTR-1 and Form 26Q inside Tally for you to review and file there. It doesn't submit returns to the portal.
At thousands-of-rows scale, match by amount, date, voucher no., and bill reference. GSTIN, HSN, item, quantity and per-line tax split aren't in Tally's bulk exports, so they can't be matched in bulk.
Each license activates on one PC; moving machines is a quick deactivate-then-reactivate.
The company must be open in Tally, and you need internet for the AI and the license check.
Troubleshooting
| Symptom | Fix |
|---|---|
| No tools respond / "can't reach Tally" | Make sure Tally is running with a company open and the connector is on (Step 1). Test http://localhost:9000. |
| TallyMCP isn't in the + menu | Fully quit and reopen Claude Desktop, then open a new chat and check the + menu again. You can also just ask "list my Tally ledgers" — if it answers, it's connected. |
| Deletes/edits silently do nothing | In Tally, Import → F12 → set "Overwrite voucher with same GUID" to Yes. |
| "License already active on another computer" | Deactivate on the old PC first, then activate here — one PC per subscription. |
